things that go bump…

in the night er… day.

When I hear the term “bump day” I hear the sounds of 70’s disco music and picture a massive crowd dancing… but I digress…

So, there was a lot of discussion near the end of yesterdays broadcast (which yes, I got to watch from a super secret location which I will not reveal due to the TV spies feeling the need to scan the interweb and pull the plug on the only means for those of us not living south of the border to watch this whole fucking boring process…) wait, what was I talking about?

oh ya, there was a lot of talk about who would “sleep well” last night and who wouldn’t. (so much so we added it to our drinking game terms) I guess more people slept well than not, cause really it’s only the bottom of the grid that is in any “danger”, and from the looks of who’s there, they likely ain’t gonna factor in on race day anyway other than providing traffic as they get lapped endlessly.

Here’s what I don’t get. Why lock in the first 11 spots that first day? Lock in the pole-sitter and give him his big fat cheque, hell, lock in the front row if you’re so desperate to get that “front row” photo-op out of the way, but then let the times stand for the rest of the grid like a true qualifying!

Here is what the grid would look like based on time: (I’ve left their current # in place to show how much the jump would be)

interesting no?

What else is interesting…

*Nelson Phillipe’s use of the word “scared” during yesterday’s broadcast. I don’t know if he even realizes it’s become a staple of his vocabulary, but he might want to have an emergency meeting with his sports psychologist, cause fear ain’t healthy.
Butterflies, nerves, a respect for the dangers of the track/sport = good
Abject fear of the track, your car, your situation, = dangerous

Not just to yourself, but to others.

*Junky finally got a ride but not with Coyne as many had been convinced of. (see CJ, this gal knows things!) but since his crew was being assembled by phone at 10:30pm by Eric Bachelart, he basically stood and watched everyone else fill the field yesterday. He should easily make the field today.Which means 3 others will be on the outside looking in come 6pm. An actual bump day, with bumpees. (plural)

*over/under on Stanton Barrett actually being the driver today? … Hey Stanton, I know what it feels like not to “make the show” buddy. (it’s happening weekly now) Hang in there. That said, have they just not got the equipment? Cause obviously he’s not hesitating when he’s out there. He’s a stunt driver for god sake!

heck, who knows what or who will come out of the shadows today. Lots of talent stalking the garages this week. If a team owner thinks he has the car and driver combo hidden away that could go out there and drive 4 consistent laps over 219. He’s in the show.

ok.. off for brunch. More later.

Maybe. Maybe not.

Who knows. Who cares.

need coffee…
