After 4 exciting street/road races, (ok… 3 and Barber), we are here in sunny, ok not rainy, Kansas Speedway, in front of tens of… fans… to sit on the edge of our seats for the first roundy round of the season!
That’s right kids! We’re into the oval stretch of the season, where we take bets on which red car will win, and who of the other coloured cars will hit the wall first.
Command has been given, warm up laps done, we’ve lined up 2 by 2 (well, the first 3 rows did, the rest all caught up eventually)

How is it that Team Penske, who are usually meticulous with their pitstops, ALWAYS has their biggest fuck ups on Will’s pit stops?
Baguette, Viso and Howard get pitlane violation drive thru penalties on their first pitstop. Pretty sure the only one affected adversely by that is Viso.

It really is making me PUKE that the same dudes in the booth that were practically spitting fire towards Alex Lloyd last weekend for blocking cars while protecting his position (he was one the fucking lead lap at the time!), are pretty much cheerleading Japanica showing such “spunk” while blocking and already a lap down . Fucking bullshit. Ugh…

I really really wish I could enjoy these races more. But I just don’t. I know for a fact that they are more exciting in person, I’ll give them that… but boy oh boy. What a snoozer today.

Bunch of new faces in the race this weekend. (well. not new, but first appearances this season) Sarah is back in action (solidly midpack in 14th currently), her teammate Jay Howard is also in the car for the first time this season (25th), John Andretti trying to sneak into the top 10 (currently 11th)
Making their oval debuts Sato (8th?! woot!), de Silvestro ( 20th) and Baguette (23rd)

So... here's what I'm thinking... 
Mostly a pretty boring race imo. ABC’s coverage may get better ratings but they still are kinda ‘knob-like’ in their deal. The love-hate of too many commercials while wanting sponsors to put money into the series…what to do?
Danica seems to run with a sense of entitlement about keeping someone from lapping her at times. There at the end with TK seemingly having a shot at Dario…I was imaging him saying ‘ah, #*@%’ when he saw her in the line in front of him. Wonder who Dario was speaking of when he talked about the backmarkers in the post-race? Hmmm…

I’d always considered myself an oval fan…consider that attitude gone.
So, quickly before the green at the NAPCAR race in Richmond…
In retrospect, the reality is we’ve always had races that were boring during every season…but it is now happening moreso since the same cars have been around for sooo long. Some turn into barn-burners, others would be better shown at 4 am competing with the latest food processor. It’s always a disappointment when a race provides nearly NO excitement in terms of wheel-to-wheel competition. Meesh has been around enough races to know exactly what I mean here. If one car dominates, we gripe about it being an uncompetitive race. Sometimes it’d be best to just appreciate how superior a team and driver perform rather than giving up on one type of racing (ovals or roadcourses). There will be some races that’ll keep us on the edge of the seat at some point…I think…I hope…
I wish a racing series like IROC would be as big as IRL and CHAMP and F1 – DRIVERS and their TEAMS shine instead of the money in the pockets of the team and sponsors. Racing now just seems to be DRIVING the most expensive car to the checkers. Take away the team developments, put everyone in the same car, and then we would see who can REALLY drive – and no driver ‘aides’ to save them – let their mistakes cost them. Seat of the pants racing, not driving on their wallets!!
