Monthly Archives: March 2012

and so it continues…

Yes kids, good news to some, bad news to others, it seems you are stuck with me for a while longer.

Full disclosure: So I started to write this up earlier this weekend, and was going to finish up during the race, figuring it would be a festival of beautiful wide shots of the gorgeous facilities, and cutaways to filler reports to make up for the snoozefest of a race. Oops… misjudged that one! (and thank fucking god for that!)

so… on to the bloggy blog… there is no rhyme or reason to this one… some of you have been asking me about my trip, so these are just some random thoughts based on some notes I jotted down over the weekend. For those of you that come here for racing snark and sass… just skip over this one. Continue reading

and so it begins…

or ends… haven’t quite decided yet.

While this is the first race of the season, I’m undecided as to whether it will be the last race of the season for me personally.

I know I should be over the moon excited about heading to the race this weekend, and I am… sort of…. but not in the way I usually am. In fact I am trying really hard to manufacture it… pump myself up. But every time I let myself actually think about it, I go back to just being really pissed off.

I alluded to it in earlier posts. I’m not exactly in a “happy” place where IndyCar is concerned, and my place in it’s realm. Had I not already paid for my trip earlier in the year, I would not be sitting in an airport lounge right now. It’s a long, woe is me story, which will likely elicit eye-rolls from many, and which I won’t get into right now, but suffice it to say I’m tired of being treated like the old gum stuck to the bottom of someone’s shoe by the people I considered colleagues and friends.

It comes down to this: I was good to have around when folks “needed” something but I’ve somehow become disposable otherwise. Kinda hard to get motivated to “work” all week, when it is completely unappreciated on so many levels.

The flip-side to the anger, is of course the sadness.

I am still so overwhelmingly sad, and truthfully I’m afraid of not being able to hold it together at the track. Now maybe it’s a case of the fear/anticipation of losing my shit trackside being worse than actually losing my shit that has me on the verge of tears at this very moment. Or maybe once I’m in the moment, and have reconciled with it in person, and perhaps just had a fucking good cry and gotten it out of my system, I’ll be ok. (as was the case in Long Beach 08) Perhaps that is what is truly dampening my “excitement” right now.

Not having Paul in a car is of course the cherry on top of the shit sundae.

Oh, and the sprinkles? The fact that Toronto hasn’t had a speck of snow in months, and this week the temps are the same in Toronto as in Florida. Good thing I paid thru the nose to “escape winter” bwhahaha! FML!

Anyway, I really don’t want to be Debbie Downer. Maybe I just needed to vomit these words out of my head before taking off to make way for the weekend. Maybe once I’m around my peeps (the ones that haven’t made me feel like shit) and get some race weekend hugs I’ll feel better. Hopefully the sweet song of those turbo engines will make my heavy heart soar.

I don’t know. I really don’t.

What I do know is this:

I will thoroughly enjoy the break from my real life for a few days. I will thoroughly enjoy catching up with my racing roomie Carol, who is flying over from England as we speak. I will thoroughly enjoy a few good meals at my fave St. Pete’s restos, my first sips of Fuzzy’s vodka, and a nightly walk to the Gelato shop on Beach Ave.

I will cheer on James, and Justin, and Alex and Will. Oh heck, I’ll cheer them all on. And I will do my best to honour Dan. I will try to “suck it up” buttercup, but I will apologize now for the tears that will most certainly stream down my cheeks several times this week, but especially on Sunday. (as they are right now)

and with that… It’s time to board

IndyCar steps up re: Social Media Plan

Happy Monday my fellow Racing Rebels. (I can only assume that all of you that venture into my nasty little neighbourhood are also the ruffians of the playground πŸ˜‰ but I digress…)

So, of the four five blogs that called IndyCar to the mat last week regarding the social media strategy or apparent lack thereof,Β  three of them were contacted personally by IndyCar with all the details on what’s on tap for 2012. Since I wasn’t, have never been, and apparently never will be a “chosen” one, I’ll just link you to the information they were all provided so y’all know what’s going on this year.
(on the brightside, I guess it saved me a lot of typing :-P)

More Front Wing’s take here:
Pressdog’s Take here:
IndyCar Minnesota’s Take here:
(and so I don’t get bombarded with give credit comments/tweets, this blog was via a guest post from Angie King who I’m assuming doesn’t have a blog of her own)

Here’s an idea from me: (I just did this)(oh and feel free to steal) Put the hashtags in your calendars along with the race name/date so you’ll have them handy on race weekend.
(I also added them to the schedule in my sidebar, look over there)

Oh, and speaking of stepping up, and brilliant ideas… As you may have surmised via previous rants/tweets, one of my biggest pet peeves is PR or significant others taking over a drivers twitter account and tweeting on their behalf, without acknowledgment. It leads to me wondering if said driver ever actually tweets for themselves. I don't like to be mislead. I also find it laughable when a tweet comes from a driver mid-race or in the form of aΒ  third person comment.

So… with all of that in mind, the team behind Katherine Legge's Social media efforts this year announced this morning that they created "@katontrack” for her pr team to tweet on her behalf during live track sessions. BRILLIANT! No second guessing. No confusion. Love when people think outside the box!

And with that… my coffee break is over… enjoy day one of Spring Training kids

And Here’s What I Have To Say About That…

Happy Friday. Here’s a look back at what got everyone’s panties in a wad this week:
(was just easier to spit it all into one post)
Warning: Brassy Level 10

So… NAPCAR sure made the most of their new show pony … er show Sparkle Pony.
It was all Danica, all the time. 24/7 coverage of her during “Speedweek”
Hell, I got bombarded by more Danistar news/tidbits daily than I did when she was in IndyCar, and I hadn’t watched one minute of Nascar coverage on tv or online until the Juan Pablo CarBQ.

I had to have a little empathy for the NASCAR fans of the other 42 drivers on the grid. Welcome to IndyCar with Fenders boys and girls. Y’all might as well get on the Dayglo green bandwagon now, cause once it’s in motion there is no stopping it, and it will only frustrate you trying to fight it.
